Welcoming Mr. Frimpong to SEM
By: Maddy Lloyd ‘26
The SEM community has welcomed Mr. Frimpong, who has joined the SEM community as a faculty member for student belonging. His role at SEM surrounds diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), which is exactly what he hopes to expand in our community simply by talking with students.
Mr. Frimpong is originally from Ghana, which is also where he went to highschool and got his first college degree. He then took the journey to Buffalo, NY to get his masters degree at Canisius University. He is currently earning a doctorate at Douville University while also working here at SEM.
During the school day, he teaches a freshman class called global citizens. Within this class he teaches how students can look at the world from a different perspective and how to solve societal issues. Outside of the classroom, he is also a member of the residential program. Other than being on call for the residential students, he runs community meetings with them every other Sunday. During these meetings, they work on building community by playing games and having members share their own culture.
This community is exactly what Mr. Frimpong loves about SEM. He loves the unity that our community displays and within that community, strives to make everyone feel loved and belonged here. He hopes to spread this community through his various interactions at SEM. He says one of his favorite parts is how structured the place is and how everyone looks forward to helping one another, specifically how the faculty help each other out.
Throughout the SEM community, Mr. Frimpong finds diversity crucial. He finds DEI issues essential to talk about and finds ways to try and improve. He says, “We cannot ignore diversity. Diversity is something that we don’t have a choice [with]. You know? We don’t get to determine who [or] where someone is born [or] where a person comes from.”
